Our first annual "Transforming Food" festival was held on Saturday and Sunday, March 8th and 9th.
It was a captivating two days of film screenings and a panel discussion about how we grow, process, package and deliver food today.
On the first day we re-screened Ruth Reichl’s ground breaking new film “Food and Country.” This was followed by a screening of 3 episodes (Salt, Corn, Tuna) of Danish chef Rene Redzepi’s series called “Omnivore”, which explores the history and current state of the food systems that deliver us these foods.
The 2nd day we began with a feature length film “Organic Rising” and continued with three film shorts in a series called “Fixing Food.” Each 11 minutes long, the first one was “Native Table” the 2nd was “Harvesting the Sea” and the 3rd was “Farming the Sky.”
A panel discussion organized and led by Sam Petersson, followed the screenings. Panelists included 3 local farmers, 2 chefs and a food activist.
For this event we served healthy snacks and beverages in the lobby between screenings. Several companies generously donated food, including Back Cove Provisions, Dancing Bear, Guadalupana, Harlem Valley Homestead, Hudson Valley Fisheries, La Milpa, McKinney & Doyle, Sacred Grounds and Tost Beverages.
